This project started as a modelling exercise of the human figure for a process called rapid prototyping.
As it is based on reproduction from CAD models, one can produce very high detail objects in miniature scales with the flexibility of 3D software.
It ended up a more artistic vision as I used it for a digital photoshoot.
Instead of reproducing a surface detail that would look too hard, charicatural and ultimately fake, I experimented with
simulating softness on the skin and muscles.
The combination with a spot based lighting gives it a much softer look and feels natural in most areas
of the picture.
Details like veins and tarses on the hands and feet were modelled on the base geometry. As it stands there is no textures on this
image and the previous ones.
The process of adding detail progressively after the volumes are final, allowed for a low polygon count. I explain a little more
in detail in an interview for Rendernode Magazine.
This image is quite obviously inspired from Le penseur, Rodin, but in a more introspective pose. The lighting rig was a little
trickier as I wanted to single out some parts of the body while hidding others into a forced chiaroscuro.
A little more of a sensual, erotic photography approach.
The accent is put on the softness of the overall image contrasting with the
upper part of the body where Teres major, Rhomboideus and scapula show stress through the skin.
I eventually added some basic texture details. It adds a certain randomness to the surface.
On this picture, hair has also been added to the mix. While it brings a little realism, it might actually "corrupt" the shot in
terms of photography.
